Government of India nearly doubles national GPU infrastructure as startups lead AI
innovation

Mission’s Bhashini initiative to contribute toward the development of indigenous Large Language
Models (LLMs) for public and corporate applications across India’s multilingual landscape.
This milestone comes amid the Indian government’s strategic decision to nearly double the
nation’s GPU compute power to 29,000 units, reinforcing India’s commitment to building a
sovereign AI ecosystem. More than 34,000 GPUs have already been secured, with further
infrastructure bids expected before June 10.
Under this policy, large IT conglomerates are being excluded from LLM development funding,
as the government prioritizes startups and emerging innovators. Thore Network joins a select
group of AI-first companies—including Gan.ai and Soket—to receive focused support to build
diverse, accessible, and culturally relevant AI models.
Empowering India Through Inclusive AI
Thore Network’s role under this empanelment involves the creation of Indic LLMs designed to
serve sectors such as education, e-governance, fintech, legal tech, and citizen services, ensuring
linguistic and regional inclusivity across all states.
